AN ACT TO ESTABLISH A PRESS COUNCIL FOR THE PURPOSE OF PRESERVING THE FREEDOM OF THE PRESS AND OF MAINTAINING AND IMPROVING THE STANDARDS OF NEWSPAPERS AND NEWS AGENCIES IN INDIA.
The twin objects of Press Council of India as embodied in Section 13 of the Act of 1978 are to :
Preserve the freedom of the Press and
To maintain and improve the standards of newspapers and news agencies in India.
