The Press Council of India is an autonomous, quasi-judicial body set up with the
objective of preserving the freedom of the press and of maintaining and improving the standards of
press in India. As it is a quasi-judicial body, many cases are filed by the petitioners against the
decision made by the Council. It has a separate Legal section in which all the matters relating to
court case are dealt with. The Council engages the Counsels/Advocate on behalf of PCI and for
appearing before the courts.
